Gingerbread People time!
If you have just found this CAL and haven’t seen any of the buildup posts, I will link them for you below:
Click here to read my CAL Introduction post. This has all the information you need to know such as dates and materials required. This post also includes links to buy yarn packs.
Click here to read FAQs. In this post I have gathered together questions I have been asked about the CAL. You can find instructions to make the blanket larger or smaller here too.
If you missed it, you can find week one pattern and videos here. You can find a link to the week 2 pattern and videos here.
The good news is that in weeks 1 & 2, you learned all the techniques that you need to complete the CAL. The snowflakes are the hardest part and from now on it’s much easier! In the video this week, I talk you through the section row by row. If you need help with any of the techniques, you can refer to the week one and two videos.
TIPS OF THE WEEK
Read the pattern before you begin.
Watch the videos. They will remind you how to
read the charts
keep track of stitches
change yarn colours
how to stop your yarns from tangling together
As I said last week, take your time. There is plenty of time to get finished before Christmas.
Week 3 - Gingerbread people
Rows 47 – 49: Candy Cane Stripe
Row 47: Change to red and 2ch. Sk the first st and 1 htr in each st across. Change to cream, 3 ch, turn.
Row 48: (3 ch counts as a 1 htr and 1 ch). Sk 2 sts and 1 htr in the next st. 1 ch. [Sk 1 st, 1 htr in next st, 1 ch} until 1 st remains. Join red in last st and 2 ch, turn.
Row 49: [1 htr, 1 tr in row below] until 1 st remains. 1 htr in last st. Change to cream, 1 ch, turn.
The next section is the gingerbread people. and is worked from the chart below. The chart has 40 rows and makes up rows 50 - 89 of the blanket.
The method for working the chart is the same as the snowflakes in the previous section.
Use a 4.5mm hook and the cream and beige yarn.
When changing colours, keep the cream yarn to the front and the beige yarn to the back to prevent them twisting together.
Work five repeats of the pattern. Check your stitch count is 150 at the end of the first row of the chart before moving on. This is much quicker than pulling out loads of stitches if you’ve missed one somewhere.
Rows 90 – 92: Candy Cane Stripe
Row 90: Using 4mm hook, change to red and 2ch. Sk the first st and 1 htr in each st across. Change to cream, 3 ch, turn.
Row 91: (3 ch counts as a 1 htr and 1 ch). Sk 2 sts and 1 htr in the next st. 1 ch. [Sk 1 st, 1 htr in next st, 1 ch} until 1 st remains. Join red in last st and 2 ch, turn.
Row 92: [1 htr, 1 tr in row below] until 1 st remains. 1 htr in last st. Cut yarn but do not fasten off. We will continue from this point next week.
